KAMEHAMEHA PUBLISHING IS AN ‘ŌIWI HAWAI‘I PUBLISHER of high-quality, community-based materials that amplify ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, ʻike Hawaiʻi, and kuanaʻike Hawaiʻi. Utilizing a range of print and digital media, Kamehameha Publishing delivers rich and engaging Hawaiian culture-based educational content for haumāna of all ages in both formal and informal settings.
OUR MOʻOLELO
Established in 1888 as Kamehameha School Press, today’s twenty-first-century Kamehameha Publishing carries on a rich and robust tradition that enabled the near fully literate nineteenth-century Hawaiian Kingdom to produce one of the largest archives of Native writings in the world.
Kamehameha Publishing continues to support the schools’ mission by publishing and distributing Hawaiian language, culture, and community-based materials that engage learners as well as reinforce and invigorate Hawaiian cultural vitality.
OUR HOA AʻOAʻO
Kamehameha Publishing focuses on three primary areas of work:
- ʻIke kupuna / archival recovery
- P–12 kula resources
- Contemporary voices / ʻŌiwi scholarship
These publication tracks are supported by advisory groups that represent a cross section of the broader Hawaiʻi community, including educators, cultural practitioners, and industry professionals. Our advisory groups help guide Kamehameha Publishing efforts by reviewing and providing feedback on submissions, project proposals, and potential collaborations.
