Abstract
Centering the dramatic battle between the māhū of Hāʻena and Kamaakamahiʻai, this essay uncovers one of the few known Hawaiian moʻolelo featuring māhū. It reveals how these stories challenge contemporary assumptions and illuminate Indigenous traditions of māhū strength, power, and belonging.
